With the energy/climate circumstances reaching new levels, more and more fingers are being pointed at different parties to blame. The hotel industry is reliant on high amounts of energy, electricity, etc. to operate on a daily basis. Because the revenue streams of hotels are dependent on these energy sources, Palo Alto Lodge takes responsibility in doing our part to minimize the use of natural gases and carbon emissions.
While Palo Alto Lodge holds a standard and obligation to serve guests with exceeding hospitality, we realize that we hold other responsibilities as well. Palo Alto Lodge continuously makes a striving effort to support our community as well as the environment. The best way a hotel can care for its environment would be to maximize its eco-initiatives in daily operation. We follow many of the USGBC guidelines to make certain that our initiatives truly do make an environmental impact. Our hotel has undergone a thorough audit and received a rating of 2 Green Eco-leafs, making our property the most luxurious green hotel in Palo Alto.
Green Initiatives that were discovered through our audit included:
- Encouragement for guests to request Sheet/Towel Reuse Program
- Maintaining a smoke-free property by enforcing fines to guests
- Encouragement for all guests to turn off T.V., lights, air-conditioning etc. upon leaving their rooms
- All cleaning agents on property contain zero VOC
- Recycling area is provided on property
- Uses green building materials for all renovations to the hotel
- Water efficient plumbing fixtures
- High efficiency light fixtures
- Yearly donations to Salvation Army and Goodwill to divert mass from landfills
- Hotel has impervious surfacing to mitigate storm water runoff
